Private Ultrasound - CUB

CUB - Combined ultrasound and blood test (week 12-13+6)

As a pregnant person, you may sometimes feel the need for additional confirmation that the pregnancy is developing as expected. Then, at Blicka ultrasound clinic in Täby, we can offer extra check-ups that you pay for yourself. If you are registered in Stockholm, you can have a CUB for free with a referral. If you are not registered in Stockholm, you can book a private CUB with us.

What is CUB

KUB (combined ultrasound and biochemical test) is an early fetal diagnosis that assesses the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities Trisomy 13, 18, 21.

During the examination, information from the ultrasound (fetal size and thickness of the nuchal fold), the woman's age, height and weight, as well as the result from a blood test taken from the mother are combined.

What do you find out in a CUB examination

During CUB, the pregnancy is dated and you get an estimated due date (EDD).

Furthermore, the number of fetuses, heart activity, and amount of amniotic fluid are checked. The fetus's anatomy is reviewed (according to SFOG's checklist for fetal anatomical review in conjunction with the First Trimester Ultrasound) to detect major anatomical deviations. The position of the placenta is assessed.

Furthermore, the probability of chromosomal abnormalities Trisomy 13, 18, 21 is assessed. The probability calculation provides a result between 1:2 to 1:20000.

A result showing a probability > 1:200 is a normal response and indicates a low probability of chromosomal abnormalities.

When can you do CUB

The examination is preferably done during weeks 12+3-13+6 to also be able to safely review the anatomy. CUB can be calculated from week 11+3.

What does the CUB blood test measure and when is it best to take it

CUB blood test is preferably taken 1-2 weeks before the examination.

The blood test measures PAPP-A (pregnancy associated plasma protein –A) and s-Hcg (human chorionic gonadotropin), which are secreted by the placenta where the levels can be correlated to chromosomal abnormalities.

When do you find out the CUB results

If the sample is taken in advance and the test results have been analyzed, the probability calculation can be provided in conjunction with the examination. The sample can also be taken on the same day if one does not reside in Stockholm, but then it may take up to a week before we can provide the results, and then only by phone.

Safe and professional

The examination is performed by experienced midwives with the latest equipment. We place great emphasis on a safe and calm approach.
