Is the Viability Ultrasound done vaginally or from the abdomen?
The examination during Viability Ultrasound is primarily performed transabdominally. In situations of limited image quality due to the position of the uterus, previous abdominal surgeries, or other factors that degrade imaging quality, there is the option to conduct a vaginal ultrasound examination.
What do you learn from a Viability Ultrasound?
During an Viability Ultrasound, heart activity, the number of fetuses, the position of the fetus in the uterus, and how far along the pregnancy is for a preliminary estimated due date are checked, as well as whether there is normal development for the stage of pregnancy. A printed photo from the examination is included.
When can a Viability Ultrasound be done?
The examination is usually done between the 8th and 11th week of pregnancy. Our recommendation is to come no earlier than week 8+0, as the fetus is clearly visible then and it can be confirmed with certainty that the heart is beating, which gives a good chance for the pregnancy to continue developing.
